a review of 'from beirut to jerusalem'

i found this book unintentionally.there was an Islamic program at my college and at the end of the program the ustaz opened a book gallery and i accidentally stumbled upon this book. Coincidently, i have been very eager to know more about Palestine issues lately and without thinking twice i straight away bought this book.
'from beirut to jerusalem' is a wonderful book written by Dr.Ang Swee Chai who claimed herself to be an exile from Singapore having a Britain citizenship. She was born in Penang,Malaysia and is an orthopedic surgeon practicing in Britain. She is a fellow of Royal College of Surgeon in England.
I fall in love with this book ever since i first saw its cover.Overall this book gave me an insight of what really is happening in the lost country of Palestine.
Eventhough Dr.Swee has embraced Christianity when she was studying in medical school(her parents are areligious),i salute her for not being bias and judgmental in her book.
She started her book with a brief description about herself. She admitted of having nasty thoughts of the Arabs and saw the Palestine Liberation Organization as terrorists to be loathed and feared before she herself sets her foot to Beirut in 1982 to treat war victims there. She humbly admitted that as a Christian they were taught that the children of Israel are the chosen people of God and the cruelty of the Nazis towards the Jews leads her to sympathize them even more.Until then, she said, she had never realize the existence of Palestinian refugees(but throughout the book she refused to use the word refugee* and used the term exile* instead).
At Beirut, she and few other volunteers from Britain worked under the Palestinian Red Crescent Society together with doctors from Palestine.
What amazed me about this book is that the writer's narration has given a very vivid and clear images of what has been happening at Palestine.
The Israeli has been a real monster and after the evacuation of PLO fighters from Beirut(due to Israeli and international pressure and since Israeli promissed to 'take care' of the people left behind) they became even more cruel towards the exiles(both Lebanese and Palestinian).
Luckily Gaza Hospital was still standing at that time and the injured people at least has a place for treatment eventhough the hospital lack of equipments and was in poor condition.
Soon after the evacuation of PLO fighters, the people in the refugee camps kept being attacked and murdered like an animal.Their bodies were even mutilated.
The Israeli then tried to conceal every evil doings of theirs by 'interrogating' on the masaccres launched in the Sabra-Shatila camps(they were Palestinian and Lebanese refugee camps) and they even tried to proof themselves innocent by acting as if they did not know who was behind it.
(to be continued)
